19.9.12 - Academy Awards Events Night
99 children took part in our Academy Awards events. 17 coaches
and 9 parents and 8 older children, all helped to ensure that all
99 children completed the 4 events in less than 90 minutes, a new
club record!!!
Thank you to all the children and the helpers for making this
all possible on such a cold night!
Now the coaches have the job of marking every result against UKA
scores and adding them up to give an overall Quad Event Award for
each child.

12.9.12 - Zoe, Emma and Kate at NEAL
Junior Harriers Zoe Dobson , Kate Carmichael & Emma
Scarborough recently attended the annual North East Athletics
League Presentation evening where Mike McCleod, Olympic Silver
Medallist at 10k in the 1984 Los Angeles was the main speaker &
presenter of the awards.
Mike, otherwise known as the "Elswick Express" talked
passionately about grassroots athletics & as NEAL organiser ,
Chris Betts mentioned the NEAL is the league from in which Steve
Cram protege, Olympian, Laura Weightman used to compete in on a
regular basis. The NEAL has also seen Olympians & Olympic
Trialists such as Ross Murray, Craig Sturrock & Richard Murray
compete this year.
Zoe at U15 level & Kate & Emma at U13 level all picked
up trophies for their efforts & Grand Prix points in the NEAL
this season with all three of them finishing in the top 6 in their
respective categories.
On a night which saw 15 different athletics clubs in attendance
it was great to see a trio of Sedgefield athletes amongst the
leagie's most succesful athletes this season.
Zoe has competed in the NEAL in Javelin, Shot Put & Discus
& has also done the same in the North Yorkshire South Durham
league. The only athlete at any age to have done so in the whole of
the North-East. Zoe has taken 9 top 3 places this season & is
constantly improving in all her throwing events. Zoe has also
competed in Long Jump this season taking 3rd place.
Kate, made the switch from XC & Sprinting to Shot Put at the
start of the season, taking a silver medal in her first ever Shot
Put competition at the Anne-Marie Readshaw meeting in April. Kate
has gone from strength to strength & has never been outside the
top 2 in all her Shot competitions. She is now ranked 3rd in the
whole of the North East in thePower of 10 rankings for U13 Girls
Shot.
Kate has also started competing in the Javelin, taking 1st place
in her first ever competition in the NEAL.
Kate also made her NYSD debut this season where she achieved her
best Shot throw of the season. Kate has taken 7 top 3 places this
season.
Emma has had an incredibly busy season competing at U13 level in
the NEAL & NYSD & also as aY6 athlete in the Minors League.
Emma took 2nd in the Minor Athletes Grand Prix.
Emma is a multi-eventer across Track & Field & competed
in her first Pentathlon at Monkton in September.
Emma achieved PBs in the Shot, High Jump & 70m hurdles, came
2nd in her 800m heat & did well in the Long Jump. Emma came 7th
overall in a very strong field of 17 athletes which included a
number of "Open" entrants from far afield & finished 4th out of
the many North East Athletes present.
Emma has achieved an incredible 25 top 3 places & counting
this season & is entering further competitions
in Dumfries & Derby before the Open Medal meeting &
Pentathlon seasons comes to an end.
Very well done to all three Girls on a fantastic season's
achievements.
26.8.12 - Double Hat-Trick for Sedgefield Athletes at
Tartan Games
On a very wet Bank Holiday Saturday Hannah & Emma
Scarborough & Aimee Barlow, three of our most regular

conditions at Gateshead to take part in the annual end of season
Open Medal Meeting, the Tartan Games.
Hannah got a PB in the 60m Sprint & also ran in the 600m
& took part in the Standing Long Jump.
It was hat -trick of top places for older sister Emma, who came
2nd in the LJ, 3rd in the HJ, 3rd
in the 70m hurdles as well as competing in the 800m.
Aimee Barlow also scored a hat -trick of top 3 places coming
2nd in the 60m, 2nd in the Standing Long Jump
& recording a PB in the 600m to take 1st.
George ran in the 100m and 200m.
Well done to all 3 girls and to George for representing
Sedgefield at the final Open Medal Meeting of the season. All have
had very good seasons & have worn the Sedgefield vest on many
occasions in 2012.

Harriers Village Games Performance Award in celebration
of London 2012
Joseph Devine was the proud participant of the Village Games
Performance Award for Harriers.
Tim Dredge, who nominated him, said this:
Joseph has been competing for Harriers since 2009 , initially in
Long Jump & the Sprints.
In 2011 he joined the newly formed Throws Group & has been a
regular competitor there too. He was in the group of 3 boys who
first competed in the U13 Shot for Sedgefield.
He took a silver medal at the Anne-Marie Readshaw meeting in
April in the Shot & took 3rd in the Shot in June's NYSD
meeting. He has competed in other Shot competitions, Durham
Quadkids at Maiden Castle & in the Javelin at Gateshead.
He always trains & competes with a smile on his face &
is a credit to the Club.
He is a well deserving recipient of the Award. Well done
